How To Embrace Vulnerability As A Strength

If you want to strengthen your vulnerability, you can use these simple steps to get started.

It can be scary to imagine yourself being vulnerable with others. Vulnerability is a skill that most people need to practice to get better at, but the hard work is well worth it.

When you’re vulnerable, you’re able to strengthen your relationships with others. Opening up and creating transparency with others is important to build trust and nourish your connections.

Being vulnerable means that you accept yourself for exactly who you are. You aren’t afraid to speak your mind and state opinions different from the majority. You live life authentically and don’t seek the approval of others.

If you have trouble being embracing vulnerability, you might tell yourself:

  • I can’t open up and show people I care.
  • People will judge me if I am myself.
  • I am afraid of change and don’t like going outside my comfort zone.

If you want to be a more open and vulnerable person, here are a few tips to help you get started.

Gain Awareness

To make any kind of change, it’s crucial to have awareness around it first. Without awareness, you don’t have the ability to see what you need to change so you can embrace vulnerability and see it as a strength instead of a weakness.

When you understand where your fear of being vulnerable comes from, you’re able to accept it. Right now, you might not be able to sit with your emotions because you never learned how to manage them in a healthy way.

As you gain awareness about your emotions, you can identify when you’re being hard on yourself and make room for forgiveness. Allow yourself to be human and make mistakes. It’s okay to get things wrong as you learn to grow and understand yourself.

Say How You Really Feel

Many people are afraid to voice how they truly feel because they visualize that others will judge or dislike them. But the truth is that the people who judge you for who you are don’t deserve to be in your life. Inhibiting who you are can cause you stress, anxiety, and depression. Your thoughts, beliefs, and opinions matter just as much as the next person’s, and they deserve respect.

It’ll likely take time to communicate your views comfortably, but with enough practice, you’ll start to feel more at ease when doing so. Before you can be authentic with others, you must be authentic with yourself. And that starts with embracing who you are, even the parts of you that you may not like.

You can honor your viewpoints by accepting how you feel and what you think. You might think that being vulnerable and emotionally open makes you weak, but in reality, many people admire others’ vulnerability. It allows people to build strong connections with each other where they feel safe and trusted.

Embrace New Experiences

While it can be scary to step out of your comfort zone and try new things, doing so is good for you. Following the same routine day after day can lead to stagnance and prevent you from creating new ideas.

Having different experiences makes life fun and keeps it exciting. It’s important to try new things and embrace new opportunities to enrich your life. You can meet new people and learn new information along the way which makes it even more fun!

Think of some things you’ve been wanting to try but haven’t had the chance to yet. Whether you do things alone or with a friend, simply putting yourself out there is impressive enough.

Refusing to put yourself out there and be open to new experiences can prevent you from connecting with others and lead to future resentment. It’s better to try things and know how you felt instead of wondering how it would feel instead.

Remember that most people are too focused on themselves to care about what you’re doing. It’s courageous enough to put yourself out there and be seen by the world when it’s intimidating and scary. But you’ll be better for it.

Your Turn

If you want to strengthen your vulnerability, you can use these simple steps to get started. While it’s easier said than done, it can lead you to strengthen relationships with others, learn more about yourself, and live a more fulfilling life. How will you practice being more vulnerable?
