Remember The Beginning

We should always remember where we came from.

By Nerissha HuntPublished 9 months ago 3 min read

People seem to forget where they come from. They have nice cars and houses. A good paying job. They refuse to speak to people that don’t “match their standards.” Acting like the world revolves around them. Well, let me bring you down to size.

People have become so high-minded that they think they are too good to talk to certain people. Okay, if someone treated you that way, how would you feel? To make someone feel like a nobody is the worst thing you can do. We are all people. Speak to people and treat them the way you want to be treated. If you speak to me, that’s fine. If you don’t, that’s fine too.

People, people, a degree does not make you God. Nobody has to bow down to you because you think you know more than they do. I hate to say it but some people are literally educated fools. All that time invested in school and you still didn't learn anything.

As a young black woman, I get mad as h*** at some of my own people. It's because when they make a better life for themselves, they forget their past. They forget about the days when they had to make pallets in the floor, sleep in the same room and share beds with each other. The main thing that they forget: Who was there for them when they had nothing. We turn our backs on each other quick, fast and in a hurry. We don't support each other because we are too busy competing with one another. I don't apologize for this one. Y'all know I'm telling the truth.

When people say it all starts at home, its the truth. Old folks didn't play. Many children became friends with the floor back then. Some modern day children are friends with the floor. What do I mean? You got too grown and your moma laid you out.

Parents are supposed to lead by example. Some parents lead by example and the children still go down the wrong path. For the parents who may read this story, just know you didn't fail as a parent. Your children made their own decisions, no matter what those decisions are.

Now, before I continue this story, I want to establish that the rest of this story is focused on being raised properly.

There are many types of emotions that exist today. But if you have to summarize them, the 2 categories are compassion and hatred. Which one that you choose to have is on you. It all goes back to the home. But, you need to learn compassion at some point.

But here is the one thing that most people despise, especially when they ride down the road. A homeless person/people. People are quick to lock their car doors, roll up their windows and some just drive away. Why? Because they think that homeless person/people is suspicious. But, some of them are not. You don't know their story.

They could have been evicted, laid off, their company shut down, which left them with no way to pay the rent or mortgage. It's not always a case of being on drugs or alcohol, or in some cases, gambling. You just never know. So, stop assuming. And one other thing, no matter what the situation may be, once you give them that money, what they do with it is on them, not you. So, stop worrying about what they did with it or saying what did with it.

If you feels so strongly about them wanting to find a job, then take your advice. Park your car, walk where they are and give them the resources to find one. Now unless you plan to do that, keep it moving. Excuse my sarcasm.

To end my story I say this: Never forget where you came from. There is no such thing as luck, God has blessed you, so thank him daily for all he has done.
