When Fear Becomes Fearless

Self-Confidence is a Super Power

By Jeff TurnerPublished 4 years ago 4 min read

I’ve spoken of how people allow fear to guide them and their lives and how one of the biggest factors of fear concerning most people is the fear of failure.

But another issue that plagues those living in the “fear” mindset: self-confidence.

Self-confidence is most definitely a dream-killer.

Why?

Because most people aren’t confident in themselves to achieve the desired results they seek out. They simply don’t believe they are capable and therefore their self-confidence takes a major hit.

I want you to read that last sentence a couple more times.

Done? What word did you see that stood out?

BELIEVE!!!

Belief is the NUMBER ONE most important aspect of any venture you partake in. I can’t even begin to stress this enough.

Les Brown, one of my favorite motivational speakers (and the reason I started doing my blog and upcoming podcast), said, “It wasn’t that I couldn’t make a million dollars. It was believing that I could and the moment I believed I could, I did.”

Obviously, you can’t JUST believe in things for them to happen. You have to take action. But whatever action(s) you take, a very large part of it is surrounded by the belief that you will achieve results, correct?

Belief and self-confidence go hand-in-hand. You have to believe in what you're doing to make it a reality. And with belief, you create self-confidence because now that you have full belief in your venture, you create confidence within yourself that you are going to get those desired results.

Make sense?

When Les Brown wanted to make a million dollars and began believing he could (and would), he set out to do just that. He began by believing it. He then created a level of self-confidence, born of his belief in himself and the fact that he COULD make a million dollars, and as he continued on, those were the main factors that contributed to him ultimately achieving millionaire status.

One of my best friends, RF, started baking during the Covid lockdown in 2020. Her husband and I would find desserts online and ask her to make them. And they came out AMAZINGLY! She then had the idea that maybe she is on to something, that maybe she should pursue her baking skills.

Eventually, she started getting requests for cupcake orders. She came up with an idea, put it to good use, and received wonderful feedback.

Her husband and I helped her realize her amazing ability. She believed that she could bake well and became self-confident in her products to the point where she started her own business and is thriving at a very high level.

You want to get rid of fear?

You have to believe you are capable of anything you put your mind to doing. The problem is that most people sit back with fear on their minds and in their hearts that they have difficulty believing they are capable of reaching their goals.

I recently met a woman, 54 years old, who owns a salon and is in school getting her bachelor’s and then her master's degree in business. I asked her, “What is your motivation at this stage in your life to go back to school and get your Bachelor’s and Master's degree when you already own a business?”

She told me, “Growing up I never felt I was intelligent enough. I didn’t do well in school. I wanted to go back to school and get a degree several years ago. But I was scared that I wasn’t smart enough or that I wouldn’t do well and I didn’t want to spend money to just flunk out.”

So I asked her, “What changed?”

She said, “I was sitting at home one weekend helping my grandchild with her math homework. I was explaining it to her and she said, ‘Thank you for helping me Mamaw. It makes so much more sense now.’ It helped me realize I was selling myself short to never realize my own potential and no one in my family has a degree. So I signed up the next week, was on the Dean’s List last semester, I have a 3.75 GPA, and I am just about done with my bachelor’s degree and will continue on to get my master’s degree.”

One spark helped her believe. One belief sparked her self-confidence. And together they helped ignite her life.

No matter what you want to do or achieve – changing careers, going back to school, losing weight, finding love, starting a business, making a specific salary, writing a book – whatever it may be – do it believing you’ll get whatever results you are after and with it you’ll build self-confidence.

Together, belief and self-confidence make a great team when defeating fear because they come two-fold and help dominate the “fear” mindset which will, in essence, help your fear become fearless.

This is your life. This is your time. You owe it to yourself to get the best from you possible.

Your best self is waiting to be discovered. You have one amazing life so make it the best life possible!

It’s time to ignite!
