My Cat is My person

A Soon-to-Be Catman

By Alexander CookPublished 3 years ago 3 min read

My Cat and I share a bedtime routine. She basically makes sure I go to bed when it's bedtime and tells me where I am sleeping for the night.

I'm not kidding. One time she kept meowing over and over outside my bedroom door until I followed her. She hopped on the couch and sat down staring at me. I took it as a sign that was where I was sleeping for the night. I lay down next to her and tried to pet her thinking I would get attention and she bolted away. Apparently, that was taking it too far for her.

"No human! Go to sleep now!"

Well that was a bit rude. I was too tired to go back to my own room so I fell asleep on the couch.

When I am allowed to sleep in my bed she will nudge my phone out of my hand and demand I pet her instead. If I am watching TV she will block my show. However, there are perks to letting her be in charge of my sleep schedule. I do get cuddles and snuggles from her time to time. She likes to either lay on my back or by my feet.

Even though she technically is in charge of when I sleep. She is a great friend and very supportive. On the days I'm drowing in my own tears it's like she can sense it. She somehows opens up my bedroom door (more like I forgot to close it properly) and she lays by my side. When I can't move kind of cry she lays and purrs and waits for me to be ready to give her attention to distract me. Or she tries to distract me before I get to the point I can't move or think properly.

When I am gone for several of hours I always spot her on the window waiting for me. Once I enter the house shes either ready for me to pick her up or ready to bolt out of the house for me to chase her. If I didn't finish my lunch at work I make coffee and then sit and eat. She'll lay by my feet if I taken my shoes off or sits beside me on the couch.

My Cat puts up with me so much that me kissing her head or laying (gently) on her stomach is normal for her. I can smother her in kisses she just lays there and accepts my affection/tormant. Sometimes she'll give me kisses but those are very rare. Don't worry she likes to get her revenge; her favourite thing to do to annoy me are two things. Number One she likes to run under my feet when I am walking either up or down the stairs (Especially when I am holding a laundry basket) and Number Two she ALWAYS scratch on my door when I am either in the Shower or bathroom. Litterally...

Once I was home alone for a few minutes and both of my cats were asleep (other cat claimed my sibling as thier human not me). So I went to go shower and wash my hair after a workout. Once I got in the shower and added shampoo I actually screamed because I heard scratches on the door. Then I heard my cat...meowing and waiting for me to either get out or let her in. Which niether happened until I was done. What was funny is once I am done and I do get out she gets offended when she finds out I didn't let her in the bathroom when I was showering. Apprently I need supervisor because I cannot be trusted alone. (Which is fair I tend to injure myself a bit due to my clumsiness).

My Cat is more then just a cat. She is my best friend, great support and sometimes a jerk. But she is like my person. I go to my cat during my high moments and low moments. She likes to make sure I am okay while keeping up to her word as a cat (secret attempt murders).

My Cat is my Person and I will gladly spend 9 lives with her.

I enjoyed reading the glimpse you gave into the your relationship with your cat. The part I liked best was when you summed up cat ownership so beautifully in one sentence, “she is my best friend, great support and sometimes a jerk”. 😄
