Why I Decided to Start as a Photo Editor?
"Life is meant to help you build a better life. It is never designed to be against you nor to be your worst enemy." At least this is a firm belief I've held since facing my greatest disappointment about a year ago. It's comforting for me to believe life works out for me in some way, some form. I decided months ago I was going to build myself a better life after discovering some wonderful, playful aspects of myself I wasn't aware were there. I had experiences that showed me how much I missed photography and videography of which I used to do a lot more frequently over a year prior. I've begun to find a regular job to work for the time being, resulting in my first couple of checks being saved up to purchase a slightly used Nikon D7000 from its previous owner on the Facebook Marketplace for $350 bucks total.

How to Take Retro-Style Photos like a Pro
You would think that with the insane capabilities of today's smartphone cameras, that everyone would want to show off their unfiltered photographs with all their vibrant colors and intricate details; but, as of 2019, that shit is so last year. It seems the current on-trend photo trick is getting your picture to look old, or more politely, with a retro and vintage feel. The less focused and more leaky color and grain, the better. I can't say I don't get it though, because I too think filters are the best. As someone who personally loves to photograph with both my iPhone XR and Nikon D3500 (yes, people still do use actual film cameras, even if they aren't working photographers), I love seeing what I can do by adjusting contrast and saturation, adding a light leak, applying filters, and experimenting with new apps.

Sparked! Photography
Back in 2015, I flew out to California for the first time, which was also my first flight alone, and I stayed with my stepmother Liz. At some point, she had purchased tickets for the Bill Pickett Rodeo being held in Hayward. I hadn't been to a rodeo before, so I tagged along with her. Her friend Yolanda also came with us and she had brought her camera to take some pictures of the event. I think it was a Canon EOS Rebel SL1. Anyways, I enjoyed the whole experience and after the rodeo was over, I asked Yolanda to see some of the pictures she took. In no way was she a professional, but I was fascinated by what she captured. At that moment, I knew I wanted to do that, too. That's when my interest in photography sparked.
