But I Want to Sing

It requires bravery

Certainty and a real song to sing

To say, shout what you’re thinking

Does it mean anything?

I’m tired of being told to shut up

Wrestled down, kicked in the mouth

When words mean nothing

Trite and uninteresting

I’ll leave the stage I imagined

Embarrassed by my attempt to challenge

The golem of my doubt

Like most everyone else

My words will stay

In my mouth
