A shadow slips through Autumnโs chill
Its eyes aglow, the night stands still
๐พ
A black cat walks with silent grace
A warning etched upon his face
๐พ
Not evil, no, but fate it knows
Where secrets live and cold wind blows
๐พ
It marks the hour when spirits wake
Where dreams come true, or twist, or break
๐พ
So, if it crosses where you tread
Donโt flee in fear or hang your head
๐พ
It comes to warn, not curse or bite
A messenger as dark as night

Ooo. Mysterious! I love black cats but can't help but to think of superstitions whenever I see one, lol. Nicely done!
Ooh, I like this - this is the stuff I like about halloween - iconography and suggestiveness and a little bit of playfulness.
Phenomenally-written Sara! This was a slam dunk! ๐ช๐พ๐
I really love the rhythm of the poem, it gives extra creep to every line ๐ป I read it in my head like some curse or something haha
๐พ I am Inlove with the paw prints throughout - love that all the lines at the end, rhymes. ๐พ The eyes aglow paints such a vivid picture of how the eyes look against the night - a warning. Oh my. What are we being warned about? ๐ณ ๐พ It knows about fate. That is shocking. Dreams twisting and breaking. Loved that line. It's so unsettling yet it brings the spirit of the night and cat to life. - after those closing lines. Maybe I won't fear the black cat afterall. Maybe I will stop and hear what it has to say or what it has to warn me about. Awesome work as always Sara. I love love, love the rhythm ๐๐พ๐คโค๏ธ๐ค
Well-wrought!
Even if anyone warned me, I would still try to befriend thw cat hehehehe. Loved your poem!
Black cats as messengers <3 yesss they are mystical creatures!
Solid entry! The rhyme scheme and rhythm worked very well here, almost like a chant or incantation. gave your words about the cat an otherworldly, almost magical feel :)
