As I frantically pulled together the small essentials I could manage. Caught to receive the ultimate conviction.
The savage words of distasteful aggression whilst I sat on the bed listening to the tears drop from my eyes.
Waiting patiently for a clear swift exit knowing my salvation was hidden gently by a tissue packet. Collecting myself and any wholesome part of my life I could.
Sneaking along the hall with a crumpled piece of paper in red pen "Help me leave?" I receive a silent nod on the other side" "Tell me if he's sleeping!" I receive the nod, give a sad yet final wave.
Holding my worldly possessions squeezed in a suitcase that was thrown at me repeatedly.
Listening to my heart race harder though it could shake the room. As I creep down to the entry stairs edging each step down closer to my heart exploding or nearer to complete doom, tightly squeezing the edges not to erupt a sound.
As I reach the door it's holding my last trinket of sentimental value. I dare not attempt to remove it from the key chain. Holding the handle as strategically and carefully to freedom.
The world is bright, clear skies and vibrant. The sun hits my face as I gently look up to see if I am to be followed. The last of the stairs completed, the window has no figures watching.
The rapid and scurried movements lead to hiding in a bus shelter. Holding myself in complete uncertainty. The only money I have in the world tucked into a tissue packet. The money tortured my mind waiting if he'd figure it or would be able to find it.
My transport appears and this small face looks in disbelief in a frozen motion watches as I alight on. I dart my eyes forward ask for my ticket.
I sit in a bay with folding seats to cradle the suitcase. Facing an elongated window staring into the vast sparkling blue sky. As we pass through the small town for the last time.
I peer up to see my congratulatory symbol. A translucent double rainbow.
In clear sight as if it was following me keeping reality afar. Watching each of the colours dance through trees and wheat fields. Holding up each other as I had never seen. The strength of light and colour, whimsically abrupt.
My mind wanders into astonishment,
I'm free.
