Shadows dance along the walls, keeping us awake.

Incandescence wraps around us, making us feel safe.

Long ago, it was just us, hoping two would become three.

Even though they said we couldn't, we begged for it to be.

Now we sit alone, not knowing what to say.

Carrying this heavy heart together, we wish to be okay.

Even though we'll never know the baby that we made.

Words for the ones who survived the fire and stayed to name the ashes.

Where grief becomes ritual and language becomes light.

Survival is just the beginning.
