My Life with Weed
I grew up in upstate New York in the 60s and 70s. I first saw marijuana when I was around 10-years-old. I found a bag of weed in one of my older brother's friend's car. It was a garbage bag full of pot. I didn't smoke any, but I knew what it was from the war on drugs propaganda that was being fed to us in school.

Why Marijuana Is Illegal in the First Place
Marijuana has countless medicinal applications (including juicing!) and has lead to plenty of good times. Nonetheless, marijuana is illegal for reasons that seemingly make no sense. Marijuana is not associated with overdoses like opioids are, people's behavior under the influence of marijuana is not as reckless as their behavior when under the influence of alcohol, and the criminal associations with marijuana is a direct consequence of it being framed as criminal. Unfortunately, like too many of the laws and social mores in America, the criminalization has more to do with maintaining existing power structures than with protecting the public's general interest.

What I Learnt from 4/20 in the UK
As you may or may not know, recently there has been an international celebration of weed in which one smokes said "devils lettuce". It was celebrated in places such as California, Colorado and the first ever country to completely legalize weed; Uruguay. However, I ( like many) am unlucky enough to have been born on a patch of Earth where this plant is illegal and such celebrations are regularly met with confliction and confusion.
