The Nation that Cried Wolf
We have become a nation that caters to people’s individual feelings rather than what is best for society as a whole. Television shows have been removed because someone didn’t like what the writers had to say. Songs have been removed from the radio because someone dared say God's name in their lyrics. A cross was torn down. A monument removed. Millions of people were robbed of an experience because a few objected. This nation has come to use words like rape, racist, fascist, supremacy, and injustice with such frequency that the words and their meaning have lost their bite. I am ALWAYS on the side of a rape victim. A real rape victim. The trouble is, if a woman is yelling rape in today’s society, nobody even turns around. I, like many other people in this world, assume someone is trying to get attention at the cost of someone else. Retaliation is often the cause, a spurned lover that didn’t fully comprehend the meaning of the words “side chick.” He declines to carry on the relationship. She is going to make sure he pays for it. This entire populous is out for self, and it seems everyone wants to be famous, if only for two fleeting minutes. What people fail to realize is that when you get your two minutes of fame, nobody really cares. Honestly, you are simply the cause of the day, the latest meme or a video that makes it to viral status. If anyone remembers your name, it will be when an old YouTube video comes on and something like, “I remember this idiot” will be what is said in households across America. These stories are the impetus for this piece.

Pride and Prejudice
Granville T. Woods, Thomas L. Jennings, Mark E. Dean, Charles Richard Drew, Jan Ernst, Mary Kenner, Alice Parker, and sisters Ruane and Sheila Lynn Jeter. Any idea what those people have in common? How about if I say Benjamin Solomon Carson? Still nothing? They are all black individuals that were imperative in leading the lifestyle we lead now. I was thinking, why is it that our youth knows who Lil’ Wayne is but don't have a clue what Jan Ernst did for this world? Without each of them, our world would not be so easy. The device that you are reading this piece on you can thank Mark E. Dean for. He was the mastermind behind the color computer monitor and holds several patents for the systems we use today. Thank Jan Ernst for the kicks you have on your feet and Ruane Jeter for your toast in the morning. Why is it that our youth know who Danielle Bregoli is but have no clue that Thomas L. Jennings was the first black man to receive a patent?

The AOC Wave Is Here
"Don't hate me cause you ain't me, fellas." Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez-Cortez wrote on Twitter after another faux scandal erupted around her (more on that later). The freshmen representative from the Bronx is not an average politician and is shaking things up in a way that has upset a great deal of people that have been around longer and think they know better. There is an effort underway to get AOC, as she is known on Twitter, under control and to follow the protocol. Another goal may be to dull the influence that she has, but nothing has worked and hopefully, it never does.

The Winter of the Setting Sun on America
With a little less than a year to go before the United States can either turn this nation around with leadership that is capable of uniting this country, or continue its present trajectory into the shadows. The rising hope of this newly elected Democratic Congress in all probability will fail the American public once again. Where there was once hope has now turned into a quagmire of opposing factions. The same can be said of the Republican party.

Socialism, the Enemy of Creativity
There is understandable resentment about the governance of the western nations, but will socialism be an improvement? The very many people, who consider creativity to be the most important facet of human existence, fear socialism. It is feared that it is anti-creativity. It is a wholly negative view of the world. It has a main objective of bringing down those who enjoy wealth and privilege. It does not plan to bring everyone else up to that level. The whole philosophy is based on taking from those that have and giving it to “the state.” A body they control and by making everybody dependent on “the state,” they perpetuate the control they have and the power they wield.

A Bleak and Troubling Outlook
Where are we going? This question has been asked repeatedly for endless centuries, eons, millennia. As a historian, I have analyzed repeatedly the outcomes of several societies, as they spiral towards different events, different futures, but what I realize is forever the same. We are headed towards disaster. There is no questioning that there is currently a form of fascism in the world, a new totalitarianism springing up everywhere, in democracies and autocracies, in flailing political systems unqualified and poorly designed to fulfill the needs of the people. I have researched Latin America to find that repeatedly, societies which totter on the knife's edge, will collapse. We have been doing so for a decade. We have seen increasing political and economic discontent since the 2008 recession. We face another recession in the near future. We are in fact overdue for another major economic downturn. While observing the economy, this month has been one of the most turbulent ones since the collapse, and yet economists voice no concerns that the instability of the stock market could be a bad sign.

The Second Amendment
The Second Amendment is a tough one to wrap our modern brains around, only because it means that the actual law doe not allow people to own guns, despite this being a self-defense situation for those who do own guns. I don’t know much about guns, given that I live in California, but I would like to learn about them for the sake of knowing something about a gun and how it works. The Second Amendment reads “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

Why Jeremy Corbyn Will Not Be PM
Great Britain is at present, and for the last few years, essentially been a two-party country. At this point in time the Labour Party, Britain’s opposition party, should be able to either challenge the Conservative Party for power or to maintain a clear agenda on Brexit. However, the Labour leader is making it look less likely he will ever become Prime Minister.
