We talk pucks and objects of that kind. We yell, complain, and analyze in the language of hockey fandom. Gretzky can do no wrong.

Stanley Cup Final Game Five: Rat Trap
For the first time in six years, the Stanley Cup Final is even at two games each, and has now become a best-of-three series. Of the 29 previous occurrences, the winner of Game Five went on to win the series 22 of those times. One of the seven teams who failed was the New Jersey Devils in 2001. The Devils won Game Five in Denver, but dropped the next two games to the Colorado Avalanche. The most recent failure was 2011, when the Vancouver Canucks shut out the Boston Bruins, but were blasted again in Beantown before getting shut out at home in Game Seven.

Stanley Cup Final Game Four: Eins, Zwei, Drai(saitl), Vier
In Game Three of the Stanley Cup Final, the Edmonton Oilers were absolutely punched in the mouth by the Florida Panthers--literally and figuratively. A 6-1 Panthers victory, the Oilers' first horrific performance of this year's playoffs since Game Two of Round 1. An argument could be made that the Oilers needed this. They needed a bad game to really focus and get back to basics. Would it work? Would the Oilers rebound from their horrible defeat?

Stanley Cup Final Game Three: Around the Goal Horn
So far, the 2025 Stanley Cup Final, the rematch between the Edmonton Oilers and the Florida Panthers, has been quite legendary. Only two games played, but nine periods were featured. Game One needed overtime and Game Two needed double overtime, and after all the dust settled, it's a 1-1 Final--the first 1-1 Final in five years. The scene now shifts to Sunrise, Florida for the next two games, the very site where the Panthers won the Stanley Cup last June. With the series being 1-1, it is guaranteed that the Final will head back to Edmonton, but the series score will be determined in these next two games.

Stanley Cup Final Game Two: That's Hockey, Baby!
To borrow a line from two-time WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels, "God help me, I love this stuff!" The 2025 Stanley Cup Final, a rematch of last year's Final, began with an overtime thriller that saw the Edmonton Oilers come back from down 3-1 to win it in overtime. Leon Draisaitl won it with 31 seconds left in the extra frame, allowing the Oilers to draw first blood in this year's Final. It was an absolutely amazing game, but even with how awesome hockey is, we would certainly not get this again, would we?

Ingraham and Mancini Put on a Show in Victory over Lakeland/Panas
Please see tip, pledge and subscribe buttons or my venmo is : @Rich-Monetti On Tuesday May 13, Somers hosted Lakeland/Panas, and a little family business was a part of the day’s uplift. “My mom always wants to see us connect, so I’m sure she was very happy,” said Lyla Mancini of her assist to sister Isabella. But the player at X has more than one sister on this team, and in a very specific case, no synergy is lost to the fact that the duo doesn’t share chromosomes.

Stanley Cup Final Game One: Game Eight, and Some of Nine
Already, it looks like the sequel is on its way to topping the original. For the first time in 16 years, a Stanley Cup Final rematch got underway, as Game One between the Florida Panthers and the Edmonton Oilers took place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. For the second time in this arrangement, TNT has the Final here in the States, with simulcasts on TruTV and Max. The Panthers--who won last year's Final in seven games--are looking to repeat as Stanley Cup Champions, and become the first team since the Penguins in 1991 and 1992 to win their first two Cups in back-to-back fashion. For the Oilers, they're looking to party like it's 1990, as they're attempting to win their first Cup in 35 years, and also end Canada's Cup drought at 32 years.

Sequel: 2025 Stanley Cup Final Preview
Second verse, same as first. After a wild NHL season where 32 teams played for the same hopes and the same goal, it all comes down to just two teams. And after all of the dust settled, it's the same two teams as last year. For the first time since 2009, we have a repeat Stanley Cup Final, as the Florida Panthers and the Edmonton Oilers will again battle it out in the ultimate series for the right to hoist Lord Stanley's Cup. I have a feeling that this will top last year; sequels usually surpass the originals.

After Slow Start, John Jay Overpowers Lakeland/Panas
Please see tip, pledge and subscribe buttons or my venmo is : @Rich-Monetti On Tuesday May 6, John Jay traveled to Walter Panas and faced the 3-7 Lakeland/Panas Rebels. So only holding a 4-3 halftime lead was a little surprising. “We were not feeling great,” said Dillon Hall, and intermission meant some reengagement.

What Went Wrong: You Reap What You Sow
Karma's a bitch, Dallas. Not as big of a bitch as your coach, though. The Dallas Stars' 2025 playoff run saw the referees do everything possible to make sure they got far. In Round 1, they handed out power plays to Dallas in the same fashion that Oprah was handing out cars, falling for every dive and acting job the stars committed, while actual penalties against Dallas went ignored. Round 2 was more of the same, though it also helped Dallas that Connor Hellebuyck was in Jekyll and Hyde mode in that six-game series.

What Went Wrong: Category Zero
You know, I think it's high time that we take the Carolina Hurricanes down from that pedestal. I've been questioning how open Carolina's Cup window has been for about two years now. The Hurricanes made their seventh straight appearance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and when the streak began in 2019, it saw them upset the defending champs and sweep their way to the Final Four. It ended there, but still, the window was wide open. Some exits during the COVID-affected years, and a second-round exit in 2022 kept that window open. Then 2023 happened. It was a year of upsets. Carolina went to the Conference Finals. This was their best chance, but they were swept by the Florida Panthers.
