Oh how very useful are a pair of scissors, oh more than I could have ever imagined. When deciding on whether to enter the contest I began to reflect on the scissors in my own home and all the times and seasons the various pairs have been dedicated to specific tasks, some to the great outdoors and others destined to the miscellaneous missions situations call for.

My Undying Love of Art and Crafting
Hello my name is Melly Herrera, I am an artist currently residing near Los Angeles in San Fernando CA where I grew up. My interests include Painting, drawing, printmaking, writing poetry and photography. I am a proud daughter to immigrant Guatemalan and Mexican parents. I attended Pasadena City College where I studied a variety of subjects including psychology before deciding to focus on my love for art after a semester abroad in Florence Italy and a couple summer spent art gazing with my mother in some of Mexico's most beautiful museum. I later moved to San Francisco CA in 2018, where I lived for three years and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Studio Art from San Francisco State University. I aim to acquire my Master’s degree in either fine arts or illustration in the years to come.

Salute the weavers of Karnataka
Karnataka is famous for its Art and Culture as it is famous for its Heritage and also its famous cuisine. Amongst the art fraternity my vote goes to the weavers of Karnataka. This is because they have kept up the tradition from centuries and not allowed it to disintegrate. In fact the weaving community takes pride in their art and have preserved it from generations.

The experience of the woman in artist movements are often shared from the lens of a man. Men decide how a woman’s bodies should be in form, the acts that they perform, and the features to accentuate. It has been my experience that when women create art it comes from a deeper, more humanitarian space. We use art to balance the drill of our lives where everyone needs us. The outlet to soothe our traumas or in many art movements for artistic scholars the challenge to the male gaze.

Why Jean-Michel Basquiat’s Work is Timeless
Over time, art has depicted history, changes in the world, society, economy, and emotion, amongst other things. As art is subjective and personal to us, the thought crosses my mind: “How does an art piece withstand time and still be appreciated in current time?” Art over time has depicted landscapes, moments in history, personal moments in our lives, and parts of different cultures, to name a few. Culture displayed in art is one of the most powerful results. Art and culture co-exist and work hand in hand, both positively and negatively. Artist • Tina Yu
Tina Yu, Chinese-American artist based in New York City, is fresh-on-the-scene she gained a following through talk between people in the art world. Once she began to expand she continued to paint and started to do sculptures on her canvases. I felt she was unique apart from other artists who do not sculpt or create solely by hand as much anymore. Our modern times are so into technology, graphic designing, almost all digital. Luckily for us, she's picked up the sculpting tools and gave us a whole new way of viewing art and creating art.
