A Date up Mt Doom
As we reached the crest of that first hill, up onto the rocky volcanic plateau, we looked back over the short distance we’d come. The ground sloped away, back down the path we’d taken that wound its way through the protected vegetation of New Zealand’s Tongariro National Park. Far away in the hazy distance, we could just make out the peak of Mt Taranaki on the West coast. Turning back to face what we’d yet to tackle, we shared a shy smile, both feeling content in our surroundings.

Jerseyville Hill
Every summer they held the 'Strawberry Social' here at Jerseyville United Church. I think it was $2 or less to get in for the supper. All you could eat turkey, potato salad, mini-marshmallows In Jell-O etc...and huge amounts of Strawberry shortcake with whip cream for dessert. There were games and hayrides... Mr. Calder would fire up his steam tractor to pull a hay-wagon for us kids to ride around the village and up Fields road. We'd know he was ready to start on his way to the church from up Sunnyridge road, because we could hear the whistle blasting loud and clear.

The Float of a Lifetime
The spring has come, and the summer is upon us... The conditions for rafting are as prime as they get, with the spring runoff swelling the banks on either side of the Kicking Horse River. Through the tall and slender Douglas-fir trees on the way to the launch site — as we weave down a dirt road in a classic American yellow school bus — you can see the water glistening from the heat of the hot sun. The rays from the sun are reflecting off the backwater — and off the pillows and eddies — and they strike your eyes with such a powerful intensity that you must divert your gaze. Still, the dazzling and frothy turquoise waters burn into your cornea so that the image is retained, forevermore.
