LOST IN THE RUSIAN RIVER CAMPGROUND
I first came up to Alaska to live in 1978. We decided to go fishing at the Rusian River, with our friend. We heard the fishing was great there. We put all the fishing gear into the car and started our journey to the Rusian River. It was a nice sunny day and we were driving thru the flats. The sun was shining on the mountains and they looked pretty. On the other side, I looked out the window, and I was watching for Moose. Going past the flats is very dangerous because the Moose congregate there all the time. They like eating grass and weeds. I could not see a Moose so it was smooth sailing to Anchorage! When we arrived in Anchorage we had another two-hour drive to the Rusian River.

Cycle Shorts: The First 100 Miles
A café bar in Fabrica, which according to Lonely Planet is home to one of the world's most beautiful beaches and, in my opinion, is still one of Portugal's best-kept secrets, is a funny place to start a story about cycling between the more, shall I say bracing, Lincolnshire seaside resort towns of Cleethorpes, Mablethorpe, and Skegness. But it was in Fabrica, in the long, hot summer of 2018, that I was inspired to write about cycling in a much cooler place. Clearly, I’m talking about temperatures here.

Locked in with Lions
Picture this - you’re in a large, octagon shaped cage and all you can hear is the roar of lions somewhere nearby. You see them start to slowly make their way towards you before they burst into a full out sprint. Instead of stopping at the cage they pounce onto it, surrounding you from all angles. It’s lunch time for these 300 pound animals and you are going to be the one to feed them.

MY LOVELY TATTOO
It all happened when I was visiting my parents in Connecticut! My niece asked me if I wanted to get a tattoo, I told her Yes. The next day she had off work and we went to the tattoo place. When we arrived there we talked to the artist and let her know what we wanted. I wanted the tattoo on my ankle, and I wanted a picture of a vine with a bird on it. My niece wanted a more simple tattoo than I did. We waited in the waiting room for about an hour. Then the artist called us into the room and showed the drawing to us. I said to her I really liked it and I wanted her to do it. My niece also liked hers and she wanted the artist to do the tattoo. The artist cautioned us it would hurt. I told her that I could stand the pain and I wanted it done.

Folly Beach
As a Northerner, when I think of the beach in South Carolina, I think Myrtle Beach. I have fond memories from visits as a child and last November I took a morning walk on the beach before a I vended at the Mythical and Medieval Festival (I’m going again this year and I hope to see you there!). With the danger of COVID, I hadn’t visited any beach this summer. With summer quickly disappearing and kids in school, I headed to Folly Beach. Just outside of Charleston, this little town has lots to offer.

The Best Open-Air Attractions in Killington After COVID-19
With the arrival of COVID-19 on the global scene, travel has taken on a decidedly new look in 2020. While summer travel plans of years past may have revolved around packed destinations, being a part of energetic events and crowds or making visits to landmarks where the lines are undoubtedly long—things this year may need to take a turn for the more open.
