The Big Island, Hawai'i
The island of Hawai’i is called the Big Island for a reason (um, it’s big). Don’t underestimate the time it takes to drive from one end to another (there is no shortcut, you are on Hawai’ian time—the highways only go around and are often backed up), nor the number of things you may want to stop to see on the way (hikes, beaches, carvings, historical sites, shops). Because my family is spoiled and is afforded chances to visit on a regular basis, I have compiled a list of some of our favorite activities.

Two Days in San Francisco
As you can have probably guessed by now, I like to eat, and drink and explore new places. Our own Bay Area never ceases to amaze me with the number of unique opportunities it proffers; there are a multitude of magazines devoted solely to things to do, see, and eat in this area. Secret Hiking Gem in Central Cascades
If you are searching for the ideal hiking adventure, look no further. I have the perfect spot for you! Tucked away in the Central Cascades of Washington, about 15 miles west of Leavenworth, WA you will find the parking lot for High Alpine Lakes Camp. Yes, you will need to make reservations in advance, both for the cabins and the transportation (usually two times per day to catch a ride up to the cabins). No, it isn’t cheap or free, but the benefits for both the trip up and the stay in the cabins is worth it.

The Real Ellis Island
A trip to New York city is incomplete without experiencing the rich amount of American history that is on offer. The museums, the monuments, parks, statues, and historical sites is overwhelming. But top of most tourists' lists is a trip to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. The story of the United States is so deeply integrated with these two national parks that actually visiting them can really make all the difference in your view of the United States.

The Chicago Pedway
Chicago is a town with secrets. Beneath the glitz and glimmer of the lake shore, behind the empty facades of knickknack shops and import gurus, and beneath the rumble of trains and the clomp of a thousand feet, stories wait to be discovered. Whispers someone might never find spending an entire life walking these concrete canyons, until they took a wrong turn and let the city swallow them up.
