After all, Icelanders can be proud of living on one of the most picturesque islands in the world. Unlike the Seychelles or the Cayman Islands, however, you will not see palm trees and idyllic beaches there. The beauty of Iceland is mostly hot springs, mountainous terrain, waterfalls and ice caves. There is also a famous beach, but it is difficult to sunbathe there.

Field Trip to the Aquarium
I woke up early, excited for the field trip. I hadn’t been back to Ohio in almost a decade - I had no real reason to, I suppose. But this field trip - this entire trip - is the sole reason I came back. It’s urgent, I was told. She would be gone soon. As I approached the grounds, I gasped at what I saw, and the memories came flooding back. There were no signs of life beyond a couple of bulldozers in the distance that looked as if they hadn’t been there long - my sign that I got here just in time. It would be the last time I would stand on these grounds, feeling the energy and history racing through my body.

Kissed by a Gator. Top Story - October 2021.
The American Alligator (Alligator Mississippiensis) is my favorite wildlife subject. Many of my friends call me Gator Bait because I do things they think is crazy and will one day actually turn me into gator bait. Like in the below photograph when I crawl close to an alligator for a photograph (resulting photograph is the one above). A gator will typically hiss or outright take off into the water if it feels you are too close. When they do hiss at me (every gator is different in how close it will allow you to approach) I back off and respect their uneasiness.

I had the perfect name for this week’s letter blog. I thought of it while we were traveling. You’d better write it down, I told myself. Nah, I’ll remember it, myself told me. Did I — do I remember it? NO! It’s gone! Just gone! Right out of my head. I’ve thought of lots of names since then but none of them as perfect as that one was. In light of that, we shall continue and call this one The First Leg.
