The Life List
Netflix is probably the leading streaming service in original content. In the last few years they have cranked out countless original movies and limited series in an attempt to keep subscribers interested. Though the quality of their shows is no comparison to Prime Video there is still the occasional gem.

Another Simple Favor
A Simple Favor is one of those movies that absolutely did not need a sequel, the ending of it also doesn’t easily lend itself to one. I will say that the contrast of Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick does work really well, Anna is sweet, adorable and quirky as is her character. And Blake is an insufferable pretentious bitch, as is her character. So very little acting was required of either one of them. I am really not sure why we decided to do a sequel 6 years later, or why we are still letting Blake Lively work but here we are.

We Kill Them All
When people say that movies suck now I assume that they are airheaded morons who only watch blockbusters and then are disappointed they didn’t see anything new or inventive. The other option is that they are those people who have unreasonable expectations and get angry at horror movies for being scary. That said, if you would like to be guided towards good and even spectacular films you need to start digging into some of the things being released on streaming services. Just go ahead and scroll through the new releases section of whatever services you have and I guarantee you find something you love. Foe was possibly the best film released last year and it was very quietly released on Prime Video and never talked about again. That said, one of this year's quiet releases was We Kill Them All. Also released on Prime Video the film clocks in at a tight hour and a half like I love and it is also written by a woman, so we know it gets some extra points.

Companion
Companion was one of the many Valentine's day horror movies that came out this year, (seriously there were like 1000 of them). This is one of the only ones that actually looked decent. It seems to take some inspiration from Stepford Wives, at least aesthetically, so I already kind of love it. And it stars Jack Quaid, who we love.

The Last of Us Season 2
The structure of the last episode was a little rough. And though they clearly attempted to balance the emotional personal story with the world building they failed at it pretty hard. None of the emotional notes are hitting this season and that is due to the writers clearly not understanding their own story. They have no idea what the theme of the season is. All they have is vague, underdeveloped concepts. The structure currently feels like a rough draft, a first sweep. I can practically see the notecards and the corkboard. But here I am, struggling through the season so that I can give an honest review, so I guess we’re watching season 2, episode 4 of The Last of Us.

The Last of Us Season 2
Well Joel died and my investment in this series went down about 99%, not because he died but because the way he died was executed terribly. I still feel nothing for Abby, not hatred, not anything. She simply isn’t a character yet and quite honestly it is too late to make her one. It doesn’t matter how they tell the rest of this story they have already fucked up the catalyst to it's existence and therefore there is really no way to come back. But we will finish the season for no other reason than journalistic integrity, so here we go with season 2, episode 3 of The Last of Us.

The Last of Us Season 2
The Last of Us Season two, episode 2….oof. Like I anticipated, the creators of the show did absolutely nothing to fix the problems that the game had. They decided to double down on their poorly structured, emotionally hollow story for no other purpose other than shock value. Yes Joel died, but that is genuinely not the problem with this story. From what I understand the “theme” to The Last of Us 2 is about grief, loss and the destructive cycle of violence. However the ending of the game does not, at all, line up with Ellie’s story throughout it. And as they have not changed anything about the delivery of the first part of the story, I have no hope for any correction of the ending.

The Last of Us Season 2
The first season of The Last of Us was perhaps one of the best video game adaptations that we have ever gotten. It was emotional, action packed and had some truly incredible performances from the cast. It was also some of HBO Max’s best storytelling. When they announced there was going to be a season two there was some immediate concern from gamer fans regarding the next season. The second Last of Us game received very mixed reviews. Now I am not a gamer fan and I have not played the game but I have talked about it at length with my husband who has explained the ins and outs of the plot and character problems.

Black Bag
When we first saw the trailer for Black Bag I really didn’t have high hopes for it, despite its incredible cast. Spy thrillers are often conflated with action movies and thus are really not my thing. It's extremely difficult to land a proper spy thriller that doesn’t devolve into a choppy story, or non-stop action that doesn’t aid the characters in any way. That said I was pleasantly surprised by Black Bag, it was a proper spy film and I absolutely think that it is worth the watch.

Captain America: Brave New World
Sam Wilson finally gets his own Captain America movie! I have been waiting for this for years. I am seriously excited, because though I really wanted to see Bucky as Cap I recognize that the way the MCU had shaped out at the time there was no real way to do that. I love Sam, I am excited to see him as Captain America and remind people what this character and what the mantle of Captain America is for. Cap is more than the serum, in fact if you can’t be deemed Captain America without it, then you shouldn’t have it. Captain America: Brave New World is Sam Wilson’s first real outing with the cowl and it's gonna be great (I hope).

Friendly Neighborhood Spiderman
The first episode of Friendly Neighborhood Spiderman was a decent setup to the kind of story that they will be telling with this animated series. I have already raved about the visuals. I really love the title sequence. The fact that it just looks like a moving comic book does bring me a deep sense of joy. They have included some subtle calls to the MCU and in the first episode that makes sense, and I sort of hope it stops there. I also hope we never see this multiverse stuff again, it really undercuts the purposes of the show.
