What is Gene Therapy? Gene therapy is the transmission of genetic information to deal with an illness. Although the theory has prevailed for many decades, clinical research appeared in 1990. The original clinical application was commenced at the US National Institutes of Health for a rare immunodeficiency affliction (Anguela & High, 2019). Since then, 2,500 additional clinical applications have been introduced for a vast spectrum of treatments, from an array of monogenic diseases to infectious diseases, complex neurodegenerative complications, and even cancer (Anguela & High, 2019).

A Brief Background When I was 14, I was relocated from my mother, in Texas, to my Stepfather’s relatives in Michigan. My mother and stepfather lived a hazardous lifestyle of drugs and illegal activity. I was taken to Michigan by my stepfather and placed in foster care because he pled guilty to charges of sexual abuse that involved me while I was put into his relatives' home. (they were equivalent to my step-aunt and uncle) Brenda and Neil Gerber took me in at the age of 14 and, as teachers, were a very positive influence that completely changed my life. This influence prepared me for a very positive, ethical, and essentially a higher moral way of living because I was exposed to a very different perspective from my mother’s influence. Later I got married at 21, worked at a bookstore for 8 years, became a flight attendant, worked as a substitute teacher and a preschool teacher when my daughter was 3.

Are video games and Computer screens, including cell phones and most electronics, considered another addiction?
Within modern society, most of us, and indeed our kids, have electronic apparatus with screens. There is considerable discussion over the implements of screen control and disclosure of violence in video games. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), some of the rigid protocols for screen time may be unnecessary, indicating that not all time kids contribute to screens, including digital devices, is harmful (AAP, 2020). The AAP suggests a balance between the rising dependency on technology and what is healthful for youthful and growing minds (AAP, 2020).

Family, Friends, and Zoom during COVID 19
Being separated from your child is the hardest thing any loving parent can go through. Words can’t begin to describe the feelings of loss, emptiness, and sadness that a parent can feel during this time. Because of COVID 19, my stepson reached out to me and his did for the first time in 5 years of separation. While COVID 19 has been a traumatic experience for everyone, I am Thankful that the recent events had allowed people to come together in a virtual world using modern communication that would not have been an option 20 years ago.
