Letter From America - The Heartbreaking Backstory
When I was younger (or wee, as I would say, as a Scot), I always loved the song Letter From America by The Proclaimers, taken from their debut album, This is the Story, in 1987. It sounded like a poignant song about someone who had emigrated from Scotland to Canada. To the casual listener, I guess that’s a fair estimation. It speaks about missing Scotland when you’re away from it (something we Scots have a habit of doing – listen to Dougie MacLean’s Caledonia for further evidence).

Pastina - Quickest Route Back to Nonna's Kitchen
Many of you who regularly read my poetry and non-fiction pieces will know that I have spoken about my late, great Nonna before. She was a tiny, but fierce, Italian woman that despite living in Scotland for many decades, held onto her broken English and Italian accent, almost defiantly.

Got it Covered: A Playlist Devoted to the Art of the Cover Version
So...the best way to start off this playlist of interesting cover versions is with Tina Turner's take on the Creedance Clearwater Revival's Proud Mary. I don't know about anyone else, but as much as I have a lot of time for CCR, Tina absolutely made this song her own and as well as being my favourite version of this song, it's my favourite Tina song.
