Classic Movie Review: 'The Fabulous Baker Boys' Deserves Its Forgotten Status
As a fan of Jeff Bridges, the star of my favorite movie of all time, The Big Lebowski, I often ponder his career, what he's done and will do next. As the 30th anniversary of the release of 1989s The Fabulous Baker Boys approached, I began to wonder why no one ever talks about this nightclub romance with Michelle Pfeiffer and Jeff acting alongside his IRL brother, Beau.

Movie Review: 'A.M.I' Is Better than 'Jexi'
I can say this for the new phone based slasher movie A.M.I: It's better than the equally phone obsessed nationwide theatrical release, Jexi. A.M.I is a courageous, artistically limited new horror movie that recently debuted on Netflix, timed to coincide, I assume, with the release of the Adam Devine comedy Jexi. Both films are about young people whose phone is related to their parental issues.

Classic Movie Review: 'Crimes and Misdemeanors'
Crimes and Misdemeanors perfectly captures the ability of a perfectly mediocre, rich, white guy to get away with just about anything. Spoilers ahead, the movie is 30 years old, you've had your chance to see it. The film stars Martin Landau as an ophthalmologist who has his criminal brother, played by Jerry Orbach, hire someone to kill his mistress, played by a slumming Anjelica Huston.

Movie Review: 'Jexi' Is Bad but What Were We Expecting?
I should have known better than to try and think positive thoughts about Jexi. I should have approached it with the disdain with which the trailer had instilled within me. I should have been skeptical of my recent less than averse feelings for Adam Devine. Instead, I tried to be positive. I tried hard to go in and laugh. It was not worth such effort.

Movie Review: 'Judy'
Recently, the Facebook group I am in for the movie Podcast "Unspooled" with Paul Scheer and Amy Nicholson posted a topic asking for members to discuss their movie blindspots. What parts of film culture are you lacking in knowledge or insight? At the time, I had a hard time thinking of one in particular that stood out.

5 Reasons Brock Lesnar Beating Up Rey Mysterio Wasn't as Great as You Think
As a surface level idea, having Rey Mysterio get beat up by the biggest star in the company isn’t a bad idea. However, the execution Brock Lesnar’s beatdown of Rey Mysterio left a lot to be desired. On a night when the former World Heavyweight Champion Mysterio was set to challenge for his first World Championship in nearly a decade against Seth Rollins, his promo was interrupted by Brock Lesnar and his advocate, Paul Heyman.

Movie Review: 'Encounter' Is Good Bad
Encounter stars Luke Hemsworth as Will Dawkins. Will lives in his sister’s, Teresa (Cheryl Texiera), garage, sadly recreating the image of his late daughter and his still living former wife, Jessica (Anna Hutchinson), in sad clown paintings. Will was left paralyzed by the accident that killed his daughter and the overall trauma was more than his wife could bear. To say that Will’s life is one of ongoing despair would be an understatement.

Movie Review: 'Auggie' Aims for Pathos, Hits Creepy
Hey, do you have a strong desire to watch well-regarded character actor Richard Kind masturbate so much that it nearly ends his marriage? No? Well then, you might want to avoid the creep-tastic new sci-fi infused 'romance' Auggie. Auggie is all about Richard Kind as a retiree who becomes far too obsessed with his new digital assistant—so obsessed that a session of living room based masturbation with his AI dreamgirl nearly ends his marriage.

Movie Review: 'The Wedding Year': Who Knew They Still Made Romantic Comedies?
Everyone's getting married and it is driving poor Mara (Sarah Hyland of Modern Family), the protagonist of the new romantic comedy The Wedding Year, nuts. Her sister (Jenna Dewan) is getting married. Her boss and co-worker, Ellie (Anna Camp) is getting married. Even the girl who kicked her out of the band she was in High School is getting married and for some reason invited Mara.

Movie Review: 'Villains' Proves Skarsgard Is More Than Pennywise
If you think you have bad luck? You have nothing on Mickey (Bill Skarsgard) and Jules (Maika Monroe), the protagonists of the new movie Villains. Having successfully committed what they believe to be the last robbery they needed to achieve their dream of moving to Florida to sell seashells by the sea shore, they wind up running out of gas. That's not the worst of it, however.

'Secret Garden' Is Bruce Springsteen's Worst Song and Here's Why
I have a deep, dark, confession to make as a Bruce Springsteen fan and as a fan of the Cameron Crowe movie Jerry Maguire: I hate the song "Secret Garden." This will come as a shock to friends with whom I have discussed this song and movie with previously. I lied to you. This song is bad and terrible and in this random song review, I intend to explain how I came to despise the song that brought Bruce back to prominence in the mid-90s after a brief, fallow period of his superstar career.
