Juxtaposition as a Storytelling Device
Let's talk about Juxtaposition. Juxtaposition is a great storytelling tool that you can use to expand your storytelling options. It can provide the jumping off point for your plot, a subplot, or it could be used to add a minor character detail that further fleshes out your character and their personality. So, what is Juxtaposition? It's taking two seemingly different concepts and crossing them together. Place two things next to one another and compare and contrast them. This could be physical items or concepts.

Subversion in Storytelling
Let's talk about Subversion. Subversion, as I am going to use it in this essay, means creating an expectation and then defying that expectation. As storytellers, whether in short story, novel, or screenwriting, the tools in our toolbox are vast and subversion is one of those terrific tools. When you use subversion you are taking what the audience expects and turning it around to surprise the audience who have been trained by years of reading and watching stories.

Jenny Nicholson's Most Successful Videos
I'm a fan of Jenny Nicholson, I have been for some time now. My Jenny awakening came when she dropped her incredible fandom deep dive on Bronycon. I was vaguely familiar with Bronycon as I had once been assigned to write about Bronies, a documentary about the seemingly odd phenomenon of adult men who enjoyed watching the cartoon series My Little Pony Friendship is Magic. The documentary was not very good. It contained few insights and came off as clearly pandering to the Bronies rather than providing any real insight about this unique fascination.

Visual Storytelling: Revealing Your Character Without Dialogue
Open your mind a moment. I want you to picture a man, just an average dude. For the sake of the point that I am hoping to illustrate, this random dude, his name is Steve, is the main character of our story. Steve is a blank slate on which we will impose the story we are telling. We get to determine who Steve is. With every choice we make, every detail that we add, Steve becomes more alive in our story. And when I say detail, I mean everything. From the length of Steve’s hair to his eye color, we control everything.

My Brother the Philosopher
Trying out a little journaling and I was reminded of a childhood memory, one of those formative memories. This is a memory of my brother and how he shaped the way I think and see the world via his elevated form of bullying. Actual philosophers, please forgive me, this is a recollection from childhood of concepts that are, I am sure, I am misremembering or misinterpreting. It will become very clear that I have not personally studied or catalogued actual philosophy.
