Uncle Willie
My uncle was always famous. At least in our house he was. His name was William James Thomas Jr. Which was his stage name. Yeah, he had a stage name his entire life. His real name was William Omar Jones, but he said that didn't have enough pop. He also said the Jr always makes you sound more important. That someone wanted to make sure people knew you belonged to them.

Obligated
We hold them accountable. Actors, sports stars, musicians, politicians, we hold all of them accountable. They have a voice. They have an audience. People listen to things that they have to say. So they, especially African Americans should speak out right? They should all speak out against the social injustices of this country. A lot of them do just that.

Mr. Officer
I'm a black man that grew up in an inner city. I'm also of a certain age. So, I've lived through a gauntlet of feelings towards you. I remember when you were everyone's hero. When everybody looked up to you. When every kid wanted to be you when they grew up. When you were a pillar of our communities. When you were loved and admired. When you were considered a hero by most.

Two Mothers
Dear Mother, I didn't understand. As a child I wanted you to leave my dad. I loved him but I felt like he wasn't being the best father or the best husband. I had always thought that our lives would have been better without him. I knew that he was an alcoholic. I realized during my teenage years that he had a drug addiction. So, I never understood why you just didn't leave.

Beautiful
The barn owl is a beautiful creature that I've loved and admired my entire life. The mixture of colors from grey to brown. The black speckles throughout its body. The beautiful heart-shaped face. The way the pure whiteness of its face distinctly separates it from the rest of its body. His long, beautiful wings and cute little square tail.
