The Wild Life On Your Door Step
When I first saw the title of this challenge 'Capture the Wild' I was quite attracted to the theme. The only problem was that I lived very far from any notable wild life, or at least I thought I did. One thing I have come to realise is that no matter where you live, there is always some form of notable wildlife a lot closer than you think, like right on your doorstep or even inside your house. In my case I even had a close encounter in my bed!

Thrift Booking and the Environmental Impact of Print Books
For as long as I can remember, I have never had an issue with “hand-me-down” clothes or clothes bought at a thrift shop. Not because I was thinking about the environment, but because I hate shopping. If someone gave me clothes that they no longer wanted or needed, I was ecstatic. They were new to me and free and I didn’t even have to leave my house to get them. As I entered my 20’s though, I started to be more environmentally conscious. I started recycling and began to want to live a more minimalist lifestyle, but I wasn’t to the point that I was researching anything or realizing just how big of an impact I had on this earth. I knew about carbon emissions and our carbon footprint and climate change, but I never looked into just how much of our things end up in landfills or in the ocean and how those affect ecosystems, our water, the air, etc. In fact, it wasn’t until recently that I started researching these things and I’ve never been more grateful that I never cared much about whether my clothes were brand new or not. However, although I thought about writing an article on thrift shopping and the environment, I decided that I wanted to dive into a part of thrift shopping that we don’t often hear about, and that is thrift booking and the environmental impact of print books.

YOLO but like, Save the Earth. Top Story - May 2021.
As I lay in bed this morning, gratitude fills my being; for the gift of another day of life has been granted. I pause, as my senses take in the beaming 6am sunrise, the chorus of local birds chirping as they awaken from their nests. Buried underneath the weighted comforter, I look over and listen to the quiet hum of the humidifier, contrasting with the bang! of the garbage truck emptying the community dumpster, just outside my apartment window.

Voracious Life
I own a 900 sq. ft. house with a small, but lush backyard. Maybe it’s a first-time homebuyer thing, but I feel fully responsible for all the life on this tiny lot. I don’t use chemicals and I choose native plants for my garden. What more can I do, to influence the state of the globe? My only control is within the one tiny city lot with my name on it. Even with a bona fide field of dandelions I rarely see a true honeybee anymore.

Climate Change and Environmental Conservationism
Climate change has been in the forefront of environmental awareness and innovation for decades now. I'm sure many of you have already seen countless television commercials advertising the companies' desire to promote environmental protection by reducing carbon emissions, harnessing and using sustainable green energy, reduction of plastic materials and products and lobbying for government recognition to focus on future development with an emphasis on environmentalism. Thanks to increased education, scientific research and effective activism, more and more people are realizing the necessity to conserve energy, recycle, use less, and adopt new green energy applications to better their lives and their communities and future generations.

Illustrious
My mind is a tinted incubator. It hatches different pigments of embryos divinely planted into it over a period of time. These embryos are ideas, topics, and experiences that were fed, nurtured and given life through my brilliant thoughts. These thoughts become words, carefully constructed and crafted with each syllable having a heartbeat of its own. I speak these words, and they grow arms and legs to position themselves in a precise formation on the piece of paper I stare at with each breath I take forming a new word… forming a new life… a new beginning…. The irises of my eyes project these words across horizons too far for the “human eye” to take notice of. Genres and styles flow through my veins and filter through my rogued heart for approval and editing. For these graphic reasons I have to keep an open mind… an open heart…. Moods for these compositions are set and can be changed instantly by a simple word or phrase. So, I must watch what I think, say, and write. These words lives could be someone’s death if I use them the wrong way. This gift… this power…. is not one taken lightly. It must be mastered and re-mastered with every “new beginning”…

Reusing is the Goal
I’m not going to beat around the bush here... Little changes just aren’t going to cut it anymore. We no longer have the luxury of time, which means I am no longer interested in little steps toward change. What we need is an entirely new lifestyle, and to connect to the Earth in a way that is foreign to many.

The Path to Reconstruction
The human race has been the dominant species on the planet for hundreds of years & as the dominant species, we have a responsibility to ensure that the planet is well taken care of & that includes our beautiful blue oceans and all the animals that live within them. As a human, I've always been aware of the horrible things that have been done to the planet, & it has saddened me deeply & I've always tried to do my part to help the planet as best as I could. When it comes to our oceans, the human race has treated them like they aren't important to the survival of the human race. We need oceans to provide us with the number one thing we need to most and that's water and the ocean also provides us with food and a beautiful otherworldly experience.
