My Home Birth Journey
My pregnancy was both beautiful and frightful all at once. I grew up in a home with 4 kids, 2 parents, 1 grandmother, 3 dogs, 2 cats, and 2 parakeets. We were far from a quiet household. So I have always assumed that I would have at least two or three kids myself.

My Lockdown Baby
Before I got pregnant I did not pay much attention to people sharing their birth stories and photos of their first few intimate moments in theatre. It seemed like it was too much information and honestly, a bit gross until the baby is born. I even made sure I didn’t select Obstetrics as one of the departments I practiced in when I was a Junior Doctor for that matter and opted for Paediatrics instead. But then I did get pregnant last year and now I was the patient instead of the Doctor. I devoured these stories and would gaze at my phone watching one birth video after another, ask all the mothers I knew about their birth stories and my colleagues at the hospitals for their experiences at the birth unit.

The Surprise
Blake came home from work at the office that day feeling frustrated and exhausted. They’d had a long meeting with the director, and Blake had shared several of what he thought were great ideas they were planning. But it seemed like no one even heard him, let alone listened. He propped his brief case on the floor by the front door and hung his jacket up, but it slid off onto the carpet. He decided he didn’t care.

My Postpartum Journey
Postpartum is, without any doubt one of the most difficult times in a woman’s life. It is the time when she feels utterly lost and vulnerable. She has lost her identity and unable to fit in her new role. Maybe most women feel amazing during postpartum but the journey after giving birth was the hardest and most challenging time of my life.

ABORTION BY DESIGN
I really did not think this would happen to me! The test is meant to take about 3 minutes until it is absolutely clear. But this is way quicker and those 2 lines are very clear… I am gasping for breath.. Coughing. And laughing at the same time! Clearly absolutely confused! I am pregnant!

Fear and Loathing in the Birth Tub
“I’m sorry,” I said, my attention jolted back to the conversation at hand. “What was the question again?” “Oh I was just asking, as the father, what are your hopes and priorities for this labor and delivery?” our doula graciously repeated, with my wife looking on.
