Curra's Grill Keeps Austin Saucy and Sauced in Style
Returning to our Tex Mex staples is another iconic Austin restaurant tucked away on busy Oltorf Avenue in South Austin, Curra's Grill. It had been about fifteen years since I had last patronaged Curra's largely in part because of its overwhelming popularity and damnably small parking lot. Of my pet peeves in life, waiting in long lines when I'm super starved is near the top. And in Austin, with so many great options, you have to be in the clutches of a mighty craving or insanely dedicated to a restaurant to do so. That said, being a bit burned out on my go-to Mexican restaurant Azul Tequila, I opted for an early dinner at Curra's and was delighted to arrive just in the nick of time before the dinner rush began. Sometimes it pays to eat at "old people time." Honestly, after the exquisite food I experienced I just may have to reconsider my stance on waiting in line because the dishes I and my companion ordered were craving clutches material, for sure!

Fried Rice Hut
So this place was thrown to me in my Yelp recommended yesterday actually. I went over its reviews, looked through all the photos, dug around online, and despite even some of what seem negative or just okay reviews—this place had my eye. Here we are into the day after my looking into it; I guess right place right time, I've got to go there. It wasn't planned for today, but boy am I glad it found its place in my agenda.

Eating like a YouTuber
I've always loved food. Some of my earliest memories are going to farmer's markets with my grandma, discovering delicious samosas in tiny cafes hidden from view, driving to another province because she had a craving, and watching her bribe our favorite Chinese restaurant to teach her their egg roll and won ton soup recipes. Instead of flowers, my grandpa would buy us fancy cheeses and cured meats (the beginning of my obsession with charcuterie). We would spend summers and falls picking, preparing, and canning our own veggies, chutneys, and jams. Because of this, I have created a monster in the form of my wonderful 11-year-old daughter, who has spent her short life eating the best and most unique food we could find in our small city. We would watch food documentaries and every YouTube video that involves eating, cooking, and tasting, wishing that we could try even one of those restaurants. But now, with a recent move to Los Angeles (foodie paradise), we are able to live out our dream of eating like a YouTuber.

Ballarat's Pub with Two Names
3/5 Dayni Rating The Pub with Two Names—it was an absolute joy watching this place come together last year as the old Peter Lalor Hotel was given a, technically third, lease on life by the new joint owners, Donatellos Ballarat hospitality group and renowned artist David Bromley and his wife Yuge. Trucks filled with quirky art pieces, mirrors, statues, and glass-work came and went constantly while the building underwent renovations, so we knew from the get-go that when it re-opened, it was going to be one hell of a quirky joint, and we weren’t wrong! If quirky is what you’re looking for, you definitely won’t be disappointed! Even the floor tiles are crazily creative! The atmosphere in this ‘pub’ is exquisite. It feels high end, but not soo high end as to feel uncomfortable; artsy, but not so much so that it’s overwhelming. Although there is so much going on inside this space, everywhere you look there’s something new, something you completely overlooked just a moment ago, but now, there it is! It’s eclectic in the classiest of ways. And the servers and bar staff are just as bubbly and quirky as the building itself, which I adore!

Sake Sushi and Korean BBQ
Everyone knows I'm frugal. It's no secret, then, that I like to take advantage of what I perceive to be a "good deal." Imagine my surprise when I'm informed of this all-you-can-eat Sushi and Korean BBQ place across town. Korean BBQ sounded good to me, so with ZERO intentions of trying sushi, and about a month's worth of convincing from my lady, I treated the family to this really nice restaurant and paid $30 each for the four members of my family (lady, two children) to enjoy this "all-you-can-eat buffet."

Whether the setting be fast-food or fancy, dining in, or driving through, we have all witnessed behaviors that, shall we say, at least—"back in my day," says the AARP-card carrier here—gotten you sent to the principal's office. We have seen it on the part of customers behaving badly—with one another, or with restaurant workers, or sometimes, a combination of all. We have seen workers arguing with each other, or with their managers. We have heard the yelling. We have seen the confrontations. We have witnessed the threats. And yes, sometimes we have even seen the punches—or drinks as the case may be—thrown.
