The Strange Noise That Night
An experience that I still don't know how to explain

This experience happened to me a long time ago.
One summer, my parents and I spent a night at my aunt and uncle's house. It was a house with two floors, with the bedrooms on the first floor and no surrounding neighbors. During that night, I was sitting on my bed, reading a book, Goosebumps. I love R. L. Stine. In my adolescence, I was a big fan of his books and devoured them.
So, I was concentrating on my book when suddenly I heard a door closing on the lower floor. My first thought was that it was my aunt, so I didn’t think much of it and didn’t pay much attention. It seemed like something normal, I thought. But then, the light went out, and my aunt came out screaming, "Somebody turned off the lights!"
At that moment, I realized it was impossible for my aunt to have closed that door, but I thought it might have been my uncle. However, within a few seconds, he joined my aunt, so it couldn’t have been him either. My parents were in the room next to mine, and they had also heard the sound of a door closing downstairs.
We all began to panic. We had no lights in the house. We were in complete blackout. We started to wonder if it might be a thief or someone with bad intentions.
So, my father and uncle went to the fuse box to turn the lights back on. Then, they started searching the house for any intruders, but they didn’t find anything suspicious. They checked all the locks on the doors and windows, and everything was locked. There was no evidence of any break-in, and they couldn’t explain why the lights went out
We all went to bed, but I confess I couldn’t sleep much that night. It was scary thinking that someone could be in the house and hurt me while I slept.
Eventually, everything went well, and we didn’t hear any more strange sounds or see anything suspicious. There was no attack.
Years after this incident, I stayed at that house again, and there were no odd noises or occurrences. Everything was as usual.
But to this day, I still don’t know who closed that door or how the lights turned off suddenly. I guess I’ll never know.
