My entire life I've leaned on entertainment as a way to cope with life. I could always zone out listening to music, watching movies or television and especially playing video games. I also loved to talk about it. I loved to tell people about the movie that I saw or the newest video game I've played.

It had gotten to the point that when I was a kid I used to imagine myself as different entertainers or sports stars and conduct my own interviews. I had about a mile to walk to school and the whole time I would have a talk show. I'd be the host and the star. I used to call myself Tyroney DJ. I was the host of the Tyroney DJ show. I had special guests that I would interview. Like the famous actor Tyrone Livingston. Sometimes I would interview myself as the NBA live player that I created on my video game. I'd use the stats from the game I played the night before to conduct my interview. I'd be like "Tyrone Livingston you had a triple double last night, tell me how you did it?"

Sometimes I would guest star on Siskel and Ebert. I even acted like I was responding to them. I'd hear them say something in my head and I'd be like "Yes Gene I agree." At first I thought I was crazy but it made me happy. It made my walk seem much shorter than it was. It also allowed me to escape the stress of my real life.

So a few years ago I discovered podcasting. That was when I realized that even though I never made a career of it I could now share my thoughts with other people. Now I no longer had to fake it. I was now really the host of my own show. If I like a movie I can talk about it. When I play a new video game I can talk about it. I love doing it so much. That's when I zone out. That's when I shut the world off. That's when I become Tyroney DJ all over again! There's nothing but me and my microphone and maybe a little liquor. Not only am I talking about the things that I love but I'm also sharing my thoughts feelings and quite a few rants with the world.

When I'm having a bad day I love to check on my podcast. Just seeing that a new episode was listened to. Just finding out that someone in Japan has listened. Just seeing anything about my podcast brightens my day. I could spend hours just looking through all of my analytics.

It's not just the joy that I have doing it, it's also the joy of knowing other people have enjoyed it. It warms my soul when people come up to me and they've heard my podcast. I love the "Yo bro you was bugging last night" or the "you really like that movie my man?"

I also love talking about sports and music with my friends and now I'm having these conversations with casual associates. I also love that I have a platform to shed light on things that otherwise might not reach certain people.

I've talked about some social issues. I have an episode on Black Lives Matter and one about a guy who befriended KKK members to get them to change their ways. I also talked about Maya Moore and how she took time off from her stellar basketball career to fight for civil rights. She helped free an innocent man from prison. I've used my podcast to highlight great achievements by women in sports and entertainment. I've also talked about women in construction and how much they belong there. I love that I have a voice and people hear what I have to say.

I've also heard people say that a podcast is not creative. That all I do is talk. Well to those people I say that it's not just what you say but how you say it. For instance, I have a Nightmare on Elm Street franchise episode. Now although I do discuss the films there's quite a few stories thrown in about how I watched them with my children and how Freddy traumatized me as a child. I spend hours trying to come up with ways to make what I say more entertaining than it would normally be. I also love to think outside of the box. Often times I may have a point of view about something that no one else had thought of.

I love debating with folks as well. I did an episode on my dislike of LeBron James and the hate came pouring in. I also received a ton of backlash for proclaiming Eminem as the greatest rapper of all time. I love defending my stance on everything.

There's also a never-ending source of material so I can never run out of things to talk about. There's always a new movie. There's always another NBA or NFL season. There's always a Paige Beckers or a Candace Parker. I'll always have material. There is no limit for me. I can talk my talk as long as I breathe.

I also love the fact that it gives me, a man of a certain age a legit excuse to play video games.

Now I do other creative things. I've written three books. The Suicidal Mindtrap, Trickbag, and the Cocaine Counselor. I also enjoy writing on Vocal and other platforms but nothing satisfies me like podcasting. When I'm doing it I'm everything I've always wanted to be. I'm a DJ, a sportscaster, a movie critic, a talk show host, and a star. The world stops for those few hours as I go crazy on the mic. So if you ever have some free time you should check out the Lisper Podcast. Now you know that there is a lot of passion behind it.

Now you know why I love to talk that talk.
