Sleep can have so many effects on a person's mental, physical, and emotional states and also their health. The effects tend to be shown in each respective state as being irritable/over-emotional, groggy and unfocused, and sluggish and clumsy, and getting sick more than usual, or having serious problems with their health. Since sleep can affect a person in more ways than one. How harmful is it to get too little sleep?

It is very interesting that some people think or believe that getting too much sleep is more harmful than getting too little sleep. "There is no hard evidence that extra time asleep, or just lying down and relaxing, is going to kill you." I came across this in an article called; why a long night's sleep may be bad for you" By Ruth Alexander, from BBC News. As a result, because of this article written by Ruth Alexander for BBC News, I think that it is completely unfounded that getting too much sleep is more harmful than getting too little sleep through the lack of evidence and scientific research.

Whereas, I think that getting too little sleep is more harmful than getting too much sleep. I think this to be true because of the long term effects of lack of sleep over time and the evidence that I have found to support my claim. According to a Huffington Post article called 8 Scary Side Effects Of Sleep Deprivation by Sarah Klein, a Senior Editor, Health & Fitness; Certified Personal Trainer that came across as one of my internet sources I found that the effects of too little sleep lead to the following things: obesity, heart problems, bone damage, memory loss, and higher risks of stroke, diabetes, and cancer among other things, and even death; "In fact, short sleepers seem to die younger of any cause than people who sleep about 6.5 to 7.5 hours a night, TIME reported. A 2010 study examined the impact of short sleep on morality and found that men who slept for less than six hours of sleep a night were four times more likely to die over a 14-year period." "8 Scary Side Effects of Sleep Deprivation by Sarah Klein from Huffington Post" In conclusion, getting too little sleep has many effects that support and show that it is in fact more harmful than getting too much sleep.
