How Philosophy Can Make You Happy
If you are at all interested in philosophy or mindful thinking you will most likely have come across this man. Born on March 31, 1596, and living till the age of 53, René Descartes managed to achieve several things throughout what nowadays would be called a short lifetime. He was a French mathematician, scientist, and philosopher who made great strides in the field. As far as what those strides were, and how it can help us, let me go on to explain.

To Take the Long Road
Most might ask the question, “What do you mean by Take the Long Road? And in what context?”. That is something I’ll answer straight away. I suppose what I mean is, don’t settle. Don’t do what is easiest, that which doesn’t sit right, but is the option that takes the least effort. When we have a bad feeling, or a bad vibe, we should pay attention to it. If anyone has listened to the Chimp Paradox by Professor Steve Peters, they will know what I mean when I say that the bad feeling is our natural, primitive instinct sensing a threat or a danger to us. Now, whatever that danger might be, whether your safety, your health or even your mind is in danger, taking that easy road could damage your mental health. That bad vibe is something we need to listen to.

What It Means to Be Successful... in Life or As an Educator
Growing up, we always wondered how life would be as an adult. What career would we have? How would our families turn out? How might we view ourselves as successful people? I know that I have asked myself those questions about a million times. Although, the central issue that stands out to me is what it means to have success in life. Now, people may say that being successful means having the luxury of being rich and famous, having a high paying job, money, a big house, and fancy accessories; yet, people don’t realize that just having these things does not necessarily lead to happiness in life. It means something different to each one of us, and we are all striving for some form of it. For me, success means being able to accomplish my goals in life. It’s about getting the education that I deserve, finding the right career choice that will make me smile every day, having a family who I love and adore, and just being the person I believed I’d be when I grew up. Success is not all about the appearance. It is about the joys of working towards having a well-balanced life and striving for greatness.

(Another idea: do the exact same wearing your favourite lingerie!)

The Beauty We Live In
Everything is so fast-paced that no one takes the time anymore to really enjoy their surroundings; take in the beauty of the tree, the sounds as the rivers flow, or the feel of the grass and/or sand under their feet. There is so much going on around us that gets taken for granted, things that we don't even realize we are underappreciating because it's all we have ever known. There are many beautiful things in today's world, both manmade and natural, that everyone takes for granted on a daily basis. One of the many natural creations that I have always seemed to take for granted just so happens to be the clouds that delicately float above us in the sky.

The Effects of Poverty on a Teen
The idea of poverty is a social stigma, especially since we are accustomed to living decent lives in our developed countries. When poverty is mentioned, people tend to generate the idea of sad children commercials compelling them to "donate now," when in fact people who are influenced by it are everywhere. For people who have had the luck to never experience the struggle of staying afloat, these ideas may make a person naive, and less sensitive to the topic of poverty. Usually hidden in the depths of society, it is hard to recognize a person who is struggling, other times it can be quite obvious. Sometimes there is a fear of embarrassment for a person to use resources available when in need, like food banks, soup kitchens or shelters. But growing up and watching your family struggle long and hard, the greatest fear I have personally, is falling back into the known cycle of poverty.
