happiness
Happiness, defined; things that help you find happiness, keep it, and share it with others.
Rain, Moon, Talk
Last night, a sprinkling of autumn rain shook itself down from the clouds, and a not-quite-full moon the color of pearls rose in a velvet sky. My friend and I tucked ourselves just under the eves of her parents house, out of the wet and talked and cried and kissed cheeks and told stories and prayed.

I'll Be Happy When. Top Story - October 2018.
"I'll be happy when..." A common phrase many of us have uttered. I'll be happy when the bills are paid. I'll be happy when my spouse gets home. I'll be happy when we are living in our new home. I'll be happy when I leave this job. I'll be happy WHEN. The problem is every time you reach the WHEN you work towards your next one, never to reach this happiness you long for.

The Power of Art
Art is one of the most powerful expressions of life. There is so much to cultivate and experience through it. Art, in its various shapes and forms, is a place to find community and passion, to share perspectives and learn about those you haven't experienced. It brings people together who you may have never met. It stimulates conversation and idea sharing. It evokes emotions you might not have known you had. The possibilities are truly endless.

Why You Must Believe in Yourself
I worry a lot about the future... I mean, I worry about finding my place in this big world and making my mark. I also struggle a lot with believing in myself... It's a problem that I face quite frequently. Some days are worse than others, but these thoughts always leave me confused and a little depressed, wondering if my life will ever turn out the way I dreamt of when I was a child...

Loyalty to Happiness
Today an hour or so before twilight, with the sky a blend of white and azure, clement as any January day I have seen in years, I read a sentence that made me consider many things. Near the end of a particularly beautiful if not structurally vertiginous short story, the affair of a man named Nino was briefly described. The narrator recalled, “…So Nino sometimes embellished his life with extramarital adventures, in order to display his loyalty to what he called happiness…” What sort of tickled or brushed against my antennae here was not the mention of infidelity, or the suddenness of which adultery was brought up and then moved past. It was the fact that Nino had, at least in his mind, remained loyal to something, namely, what he considered to be happiness. And so, I couldn't help but wonder what deep down I am truly loyal to. After all, we all have our devotions and allegiances, be them virtuous or otherwise.

Triple Threat
I made three brief bullets in preparation of this note; as a makeshift outline. I dare not type them now for shame of realizing the pure crypticness of them. In any event, I resolved to create something for the sake of a much needed “HAFF Time;" as so elegantly named by the lovely Kalyn Nicholson (Kalyn’s Coffee Talk). It is based off of an element from a recent concert from one of her fellow Toronto natives (in addition to major sporting events [Halftime]). The acronym stands for “Honesty, Acceptance, Forgiveness, and Focus” (if I got the order right). I was recently afforded the opportunity to be brutally honest with myself by a newly christened BFF (Best Friend Forever). He demanded an answer to a question that I have long dreaded for some reason: “What is stressing you out?”

I Try to Find Time for Myself
College life is hard y'all. Taking a full load of classes, working 30 hours a week, being in 2 student orgs, and having a dog are the things I have to balance this semester. Add on top of that a long distance relationship and being a 24 hour drive away from my family. But even though most days I can't find a couple minutes to relax by myself, I still try my hardest to make time for my thoughts and prayers every day. When I wake up in the mornings, I take my dog out and while I'm waiting for her to finish her business, I pray. It might only be 3 minutes, but it makes me feel closer to God and has made my prayer life stronger. On the days that I walk/ride a bike to work I like to not listen to music so I can think and plan my day in my head. I think about what I'll eat for lunch, if I have time to go home between work and class, and when will I get my workout in for the day. One of the orgs I am in is my school's club swim team. I go to practice 2-3 times a week (depending on how much homework I have) and it is a great way to de-stress and clear my head. I also try to go to a circuit class 2 times a week so I really feel the burn. Working out is helping me realize how out of shape I am and how good I feel afterwards. Since I have started working out more I have become happier, less stressed, and I have even lost some weight. Another way I keep my busy schedule less stressful is by having a planner. I have color coded pens for class, work, and personal stuff. It helps to keep me reminded of all the things I have to do and gives me milestones to look forward too. Every weekend that I get to see my boyfriend I put little heart stickers on the day he comes. For the times my mom and sister are coming to see me I put stars. Having a cute, organized planner keeps me sane and makes sure I do all my homework. Even though I am a busy girl with all the things I have on my plate, finding time to myself to pray or plan out the day is such a crucial part of my less stressful life.

Thoughts on Purpose
I like to preface all of my articles with a brief statement: these thoughts are mine, crafted from my own personal experiences. They may not work for you, but I like sharing them in case they could offer a perspective you might not have previously considered. It may make sense for me and where I am in life today, and tomorrow it may change. We’re all here just trying to figure it all out from the experiences we’ve been given anyway.

Ok to Not Be Ok, Please Do Not Forget That
Today was a day off. Walking the kids to school gave me chance to sit in my own head and that is not always a good thing. Readers of my previous articles will know what happened a few weeks ago now and today was a bit of a hit.
