The water is running swift and fast
Rippling in and under and around
Dancing over smooth brown rocks
Wearing their coats of mossy green
The sun glitters and twinkles on the surface despite the surge of power and froth
As I look I see sky’s life reflected back at me
Birds, clouds, leaves and a kite
Along the bank a lamb steps forward in trepidation, nervous to cross over
She backs away afraid and looks for her mother to guide her
I move further up the creek trailing a stick in the rush of a thousand billion drops
The force of it tugging my hand until I let go
I glance up as I hear shouts of glee and contest
Through silvery gums and weeping willows I see kids running towards me as they chase their twig boats, racing along the current
I smile with laughing eyes as the ruckus runs past me and I spot a flat boulder
I just can’t resist and slip off my sandals
The grass is soft and lush as I reach my ready made seat and dangle my toes in the rising waters
Ice cold it shocks me giving goosebumps but I don’t care
I lean back with my face to the warming sun
Enjoying the sounds of life; the bleats of a lamb, distant joyful screams, whistling leaves on the breeze
And mostly the thunderous roar of my creek after the storms
About the Creator
Linda Bromley
Just one of many creative outlets for me has been books! My whole life I’ve loved them and it’s so easy to make the jump to writing.
Recently I completed a poetry challenge and now, looking for more excuses to write, I’ve found myself here!
