5 Things I Learned From Teaching Up North
The incredible spirit, perseverance, and connection to the land and those around, have blessed the lens in which I’ve seen my students. I’ve never felt more honoured to share spaces with folks then when I’ve taught in Igloolik, Kimmirut, and Poplar Hill First Nation. These kids are superheroes, and I dedicate this piece to all those I’ve crossed paths with.

What do I need to feel safe, held and supported during this challenging time?
I have spent a lot of my life finding a fake sense of security in places that should have been genuine. I have given many pieces of myself to provide safety and support for others, who really just took.

Ink-Bled Bystander
Who was he trying to kid? It was obvious that at some point he would get caught. His profession could only remain sustainable for so long. And boy was it sustainable; cash without end in sight along with all the solitude a lone wolf could want. He wished he could say it was guilt free. But in the nights when he wasn’t on rooftops getting blackeye-d from his too trusty scope, the ghosts tortured him.

No Chocolate In This House
My mother never liked chocolate. She claimed it gave her terrible headaches. Aside from the fact that she usually had headaches, I took her choco-abstinence as an excuse to have more for myself. Someone had to make up for the average chocolate family intake.
