Here's Looking At You Kid
Ingrid Bergman is one of the many Old Hollywood actresses that I love and whose movies I could watch again and again. The interesting thing about Bergman is that she was born in Stockholm, Sweden, on August 29, 1915, and died of cancer in London, England, on August 29, 1982, which was her 67th birthday. Yes, you read that right, her birth and death dates are the same. I don't think I have previously known or heard of anybody who died on their birthday, but I know there must be some people at least. This legendary actress is best known for her incredible role as Ilsa Lund in the classic movie "Casablanca." The actress created quite a scandal in 1950 when she gave birth to the son of Italian director Roberto Rossellini, not having been married to him.

That’s Rock and Roll
This is another of my all time favorite singers. Eric Carmen is an American singer, songwriter, guitarist and keyboardist. He had a number of hit songs in the 1970s and 1980s. He began singing as a member of the rock group The Raspberries. His solo hits include “All By Myself”, “Never Gonna Fall in Love Again”, ‘Hungry Eyes”, and “Make Me Lose Control”.

Haunted West Virginia
Ghost stories are just ghost stories. They can scare you and set your imagination dancing. However, ghost stories that are real are the most frightening of all because you know the places that the ghosts haunt and they just might be close-by.

The Joys of Christmas Food
The Yule Log This is a holiday cake called the Yule Log also known as the Christmas Log or Buche de Noel. This cake that is made at Christmastime dates back to the 19th century. At this time rolled sponge cakes filled with jam or cream and covered with butter cream icing began to be mentioned in European cookbooks. They were usually decorated with marzipan or meringue. The rolled shape of the cake was to remind one of a log and was typically covered with chocolate butter cream to look like the “bark of a tree”.

'Shall We Dance?'
The heading is the name of one of the movies I love the best that stars actor Richard Gere, who was born on August 31, 1949 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I know that if this handsome actor came forth and asked me, “Shall we dance?” I would be on my feet in a second. He has starred in such popular movies like Pretty Woman, An Officer and a Gentleman and Chicago. I know that Pretty Woman despite the prostitute story reminded me of a modern day Cinderella story, and by the end of the movie when the character Gere was portraying came after Julie Roberts’ character I was both crying and cheering. It’s a real feel good movie with a touch of comedy and romance.

'A Streetcar Named Desire'
This is for all those movie and literature fans who have read Tennessee Williams play A Streetcar Named Desire or who have seen the play or movie. My favorite version is on video and I have already watched it a dozen times at least. The movie came out in 1951 and starred Marlon Brando and Vivien Leigh. It was interesting to watch Vivien Leigh as the aging Blanche because she was so clearly still in my mind as the young and vibrant Scarlett in Gone With the Wind. However since Blanche was supposedly a wilted Southern bloom then she could have just as well have been Scarlett in her sunset years.

House of the Rising Sun
Once there was a British rock band in the 1960s, who chose to call themselves The Animals. They are best known for their number one hit single ”The House of the Rising Sun” and other hit songs which included “We’ve Gotta Get Out of This Place”, “It’s My Life” and “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood”. The band was simply fantastic and I’m sure there are many of you who have heard their number one hit single played many times as it became incredibly popular and is still played on the radio today.

Witches with Twitches
Yes, Halloween is fast coming. Soon those broom-riding ladies with the pointed hats will be filling the skies. They are the most lasting symbols of this time through the years. Always considered ugly or evil they have always been feared. The main things which symbolize witches are broomsticks, cauldrons, and black cats.

The Scariest of Halloween Characters
Do you remember the werewolf? During the full moon he turns all hairy, grows long fangs, and begins to slobber. Never let him catch you or you will turn into a werewolf too if he bites you. Once he becomes human again he’ll never remember just what he had done the night before. Sort of like going on an alcoholic bender only much worse. Among my favorite werewolf movies is the original 1941 movie The Wolf Man starring Lon Chaney, Jr. Well worth watching on Halloween. It will make you fear werewolves and gypsies too.
