Finding Magic in Food in a Time of Fear (Part One)
There’s not much magic in meal prepping. On any given Sunday- for the last five years or so- I would rush to the grocery store, hustling through the aisles with a fierce determination. Once home, I would proceed to cook food in mass amounts to get me through the week. Don’t get me wrong, this process has been a necessity for me in terms of staying healthy and saving money but, I struggle to find magic in tupperware and dry chicken breast.

Food Traditions!!
Tradition! Tradition!! Tradition!!! Is a specific value in my family that has to be observed? It falls mostly on Christmas through the New Year’s. People from all over the world have their own traditions and customs. Some of them are related to celebrating important events in country's history, and others are associated with family's customs. I have a favorite tradition in my family, which originates from the middle of last century. We come together in the New Year celebrating and make presents to each other. I like our tradition due to few reasons. Having a large family is a stress cake but the fun to it is cooking through the celebration festival, it brings out the skill, drama and fun in our family. It is a great opportunity to gather all family members together. We have relatives across the country, and we need a great effort to meet. Every year during the festival our families come together at my parents’ house. There is no cooking done until all the families are at the house on the 23rd of December.

Beigel Bake Bliss
A beautiful spring morning on Brick Lane, in East London. The sky an astonishing blue, unmarked by the white contrails of airplanes; even in this ultra-urban setting, you can hear birdsong. Thanks to COVID-19, many of the shop are shuttered, but not Beigel Bake, which has been serving the community here since 1974. Only three people are allowed in the shop at a time now, thanks to social distancing; we all behave ourselves as we wait for our breakfasts. When it’s my turn, Fiona — one of the stalwart women who work behind the counter here, and keep this place running day and night — fills the giant steel teapot from a hissing tap of boiling water. She swirls the bags to let them steep and despite the tough times, gives me a big smile, for we are old friends. I’ve lived nearby for 25 years, and have come here nearly daily, if only for a cup of tea and a chat.

Will you help me fight food waste and save lives?
"Who will buy it?" - with great compassion I am asking myself this question every time when I see another damaged or ugly fruit or vegetable and a wave of pain overwhelms me."I will " - I am answering myself and a fruit or vegetable is heading to my basket. I take them and silently suffering walk away because I know that there are still many left and they are destined to death in a garbage can. I can see people spending so much time thoroughly selecting the best looking fruits and vegetables, while I do exactly the opposite - selecting only bruised and oddly shaped ones. I stopped buying beautiful fruits and veggies a long time ago, I buy them only if I have no choice and only good ones are available.

Oatmeal is Disgusting
Oat is considered one of the major staples for healthy eating. It is a food that has survived many trends and generations. Deemed highly nutritious and tasty, oats can be considered a comfort food for many. I am inclined to agree with the population that oats are great for your health. Oats have been known to lower your cholesterol and provide loads of fiber. A healthy heart can prevent a wash load of diseases and bodily dysfunction; keep the heart pumpin’ so we can keep jumpin’. I believe that a good poop can solve any day to day problem, so fiber is definitely a plus in my book. Fiber in oats also helps to control blood sugar levels and can potentially help you eat less because it is so filling. All of this is good news, bring on the oats! The downside to the oats is that most offerings come with loads of sugar. They come in instant breakfast packaging, cookies, bread etc. which all have tons of sugar added on to the label.

A quick break, a simple delight. Top Story - February 2020.
The deli was in Hammersmith, around the corner from my school. At my old school, in New York, I didn’t go out for lunch; I liked the food in the cafeteria there. But in London, at my new school, the food was – well, the truth is I don’t remember. So I’m going to tell you that the food was bad. It’s up to you whether you believe me. But this is my story. What I say is up to me.

The Traveling Foodie
My journey with food is somewhat of a roller coaster i would say. Growing up I was stuck with the family style of food. The "culture" of it all if you will. From the farm to the plate food has been so much apart of who I am. Having different meals in various ways in separate places allowed me too appreciate food and.

The Coffee Effect
You didn’t know why you knew so much about coffee, you don’t even drink it. But your mother adored coffee. She would always sing a little song as she ground up the beans and then smelled them. The aroma filled the house as though she had been baking cookies or cupcakes.

For the Love of Food, Please Stop Eating on Public Transport!
I recently took a 3-hour bus trip with a gluttonous, annoying seat partner who couldn’t keep his mouth shut. It was absolute hell for me. Then it hit me… People are eating all the time, everywhere, which is disgusting. Don’t get me wrong. I love food, but I’m often nauseated by people eating foods with obnoxious smells. I’m actually personally offended when passengers arrogantly dump their garbage on the bus floor as if they are the only people who matter in the world.
