You Don’t Have to Love Yourself All the Time
You don’t have to love yourself. That can’t be right, can it? Not when every other post on social media is silently screaming at you to love yourself, flaws and all. Type in “self-love” on google, and you’ll see tons of articles, all with similar headlines touting 10 to 15 ways you can love who you are and why this is vital.

The New Years Anti-Resolutions
It doesn't take a lot of digging to figure out that the whole New Years resolution thing is a flawed system. Most people decide they're going to do things they've never even attempted before, go all in and start out really determined, then quickly burn out and abandon their efforts a few weeks later. That's just not how goal-setting works. You shouldn't be setting wildly unrealistic standards for yourself. If you have something you want to achieve, you have to work up to it. You have to take steps to get there. You have to be gentle with yourself as you navigate the process. All or nothing isn't the way to do it.

The Year of Extraordinary Rest
When I started dating my partner, a gentle-giant Italian beefcake who likes to paint with watercolors and prepare increasingly elaborate pasta dishes, he was horrified by my relationship with sleep. This guy, I quickly came to understand, believes in luxury sleep. As a freelance graphic designer, he often works laborer jobs that require him to use all 6’3” and 250 lbs of himself. Add narcolepsy to the mix, and you’ve got a person who really, really needs his z’s.

What Doesn't Kill You Makes You... Want to Get a Break
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. You might be surprised that Kelly Clarkson wasn't the first to say this. Nietzsche preceded her by almost two centuries. Is it just me? Oh, well. The point is, I fully agree with whoever says that what doesn't kill us makes us stronger, but I can't help thinking that sometimes it just warns us about reaching a dangerous limit. It might've not killed you (yay!), but it made you want to get a break.

The One Where Monique Stays Up Until Midnight
The curtain on 2021 is finally drawing to a close. I am literally sitting here at the 11th hour and 59th minute trying to get this down before the clock strikes twelve. I originally opened this document as a last ditch effort to militantly plan the crap out of 2022. This year is going to be my bitch!! But 5 minutes in and other than a sudden urge to take a nap, stuff my mouth with popcorn and aimlessly trawl Facebook Marketplace, I've got nothing! Zip. Zero. Zilch.
