The Yardbirds
A great 1960s rock and roll band from Britain known as The Yardbirds. Among their most memorable hits are “For Your Love”, “Over Under Sideways Down”, and “Heart Full of Soul.” If you’re like me and you love rock then think a bit. I react to songs and know which I hear that become my instant favorites and then there are those I listen to now and then and I recognize. However, I never paid much attention to who the performers were until YouTube came along and I searched for songs and made certain discoveries. So this trip down memory lane about bands which have been popular and are still popular is a fascinating one for me and I hope for you too. Sort of like an education in rock and roll.

For the Love of Marilyn
You would think that if you’re young, talented, loved by millions, and rich your problems would be small and life basically would be good. Well, apparently that isn’t true, because Hollywood lost a very talented actress on August 5, 1962, when Marilyn Monroe was found dead at home in Los Angeles, California. I have seen a lot of her movies and I can say that, except for Niagara, I preferred her in lighter roles, in movies such as How to Marry a Millionaire, Some Like It Hot and The Seven Year Itch.

Ghostly Spirits in Virginia
The Berkeley Plantation Mansion is located in Charles City, Virginia near the James River. The mansion has three stories, and is built of brick. The mansion is now a museum. It is interesting to see the inside of this beautiful house where the woodwork was done by Benjamin Harrison IV, with advice from his friend, Thomas Jefferson. 18th-century furnishings adorn the house. There are five terraced gardens that were created during the Revolutionary War, and lead down to the James River.

The Gettysburg National Military Park
The Gettysburg National Military Park encompasses over 40 miles of land and has over 1,000,000 monuments and cannons. At this park, soldiers are still on duty and many are still experiencing the terrifying events that led to their deaths. At the Little Round Top a strategic position for the Union soldiers giving them a good view of the land below, a headless horseman can be seen riding his horse around. Phantom soldiers have been seen marching in formation and riding their horses against the enemy.

Forever Young Rod Stewart
This British rock singer-songwriter with his unending energy and vitality continues to entertain his fans to this very day. Rod Stewart’s heritage is a mixture of English and Scottish ancestry. He counts himself among the best selling music artists of all time, and has sold more than 100 million records around the globe. In the UK alone he has had six consecutive number one albums, and has had four number one hit singles on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US. He got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2006.

Surfing with The Beach Boys
This is a very popular and well known American rock band, whose beginnings were in Hawthorne, California in 1961. The original Beach Boys were Brian, Dennis, and Carl Wilson, Mike Love, and Al Jardine. They gained almost immediate popularity and one of their all-time favorite songs, “Good Vibrations,” was released in 1966. They continue to be popular today as the surviving members continue to perform. In 1983, Dennis Wilson drowned and in 1998, Carl Wilson died of lung cancer. The remaining members came together as The Beach Boys for their 50th anniversary. They have sold over 100 million records all over the globe and were listed as number 12 on Rolling Stone magazine’s 2004 list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.

New York City Food
New York City style hot dogs, especially with sauerkraut, sweet relish, onion sauce, ketchup, and/or mustard. Manhattan clam chowder has a clear broth, plus tomato for red color and flavor. In the 1890s, it was called “New York Clam Chowder” and “Fulton Fish Market” clam chowder. According to Good Eats, the addition of tomatoes in place of milk was actually the work of Portuguese immigrants.

Little Richard
A very popular American recording artist, songwriter, and musician, whose performances thrilled his fans, was born as Richard Wayne Penniman and became known as Little Richard. He was most popular in the mid-1950s and played a mix of music which included rock, soul, and funk. He has been inducted in both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. He received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Rhythm and Blues Foundation. For unique vocalization and an irresistible beat, his song “Tutti Frutti,” from 1955, has been included in the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry, in 2010.

Food in Champagne In the Champagne region of France, you can find all different kinds of French food in their restaurants. Since this region borders with Belgium then you’ll also find lots of Flemish dishes as well. Champagne bases its food on game which is plentiful since this region is France’s largest game hunting ground. Recipes are based on venison, rabbit, boar, and pheasant.

Enjoying Food in Scotland
I have always felt that the best way to get to know people from different countries is by learning about what they like to eat. We all know our own eating habits and pretty much can say what other people in our country prefer or don’t prefer but we cannot know what people in foreign countries like to eat. Let’s take a look at Scotland. The Scots prefer to have a very full breakfast which, of course, counts as the most important meal of the day but which a lot of busy people tend to pass by.
